PETA DOWNES
About
Peta Downes is a creative professional with a broad and varied experience in theatre directing, independent producing, arts management, actor training and tertiary education. In her early creative career, Peta was a performer/associate artist with Zen Zen Zo Physical Theatre Company from 1996-99, where she trained in the Suzuki and Viewpoints methods, performing the role of Lady Macbeth in the 1998 production of "Macbeth: As Told by the Weird Sisters" directed by Simon Woods. In 1999, Peta trained with renowned director Anne Bogart and the SITI Company in these methods at their Summer Intensive in Saratoga Springs, New York.
Peta has directed/produced new theatre works with Brisbane Powerhouse, Metro Arts, and Darlinghurst Theatre Company and worked as a director for La Boite Theatre Company, the Queensland Theatre Company, and the Bell Shakespeare Company.
Additionally, she has worked extensively as an actor trainer and director with acting and theatre studies students from QUT, UNSW, NIDA, CQU, CSU, Actors Centre Australia, Actors College of Theatre and Television, the Australian Institute of Music, Sydney Theatre School and the Academy of Film, Theatre and Television (JMC Academy) and the University of Wollongong.
